Yearly Round-up – 2017

2017 has been the biggest year yet for us at Strawberry Wedding Films, and it’s all thanks to you! We’ve decided to write this post as a bit of a round-up of some of the cool stuff we’ve experienced with our fantastic couples over the year, and while it is the end of the height of the wedding season, we’re still going strong! Aside from the continued hard work of our post production teams diligently finalizing your films, we’ve also seen a fantastic number of couples wanting that perfect Autumn & Winter wedding – Scotland truly is the place to get married all year round – so when the peak wedding season stops we’re still working hard!

Wedding Map Snapshot – Various Locations

This is a cool little pic of all the weddings we’ve been to throughout the year, and this is just in and around the Fife area!

Oh, the places we’ve been! 2017 saw us truly travelling to all ends of Scotland, from Hawick down in the Scottish Borders up to Dingwall above Inverness and all points in between.  We’ve even taken the Calmac out to the Isle of Bute just this past month, and we look forward to where 2018 takes us both on the mainland and the outlying islands.  Here are some of the coolest moments of 2017 for us so far – in picture form!

Kaylie & Mark – Alloa

Ever heard of wedding lambs?  Well now you have! This little guy was excited to make his Strawberry Wedding Films debut and was also very well-behaved.  He didn’t seem to care for our camera-guy though which is why he’s giving him the side-eye!

Andrea & Stephen – Lochgoilhead

Now this is the treehouse of our childhood dreams!  Look at that thing – if I remember correctly it even had indoor plumbing and Sky Q! We love lakeside weddings already, but to be able to get some great footage in and around this treehouse – magnificent!

Neil & Grace – Dundas Castle

We love filming your day, but we also love presents! This couple are from Texas and they brought James this awesome belt buckle from the Lone Star state as a gift! It works out perfectly, as prior to this he just walked around with the store-issued belt buckle on his belt!  Who does that?!

Our Drone team and Their Drone

This is our super cool team of drone operators and the reason they’re here is because we couldn’t find a picture of them for the previous blog post anywhere, so we’re getting them in here now!  They’re usually pretty sneaky trying to hide themselves from appearing the drone footage they shoot, but we got you this time guys!

Anna & Dan – Kelburn Castle

Speaking of drone footage, this was shot by our aforementioned super cool drone team for our Strawberry Cinematic Package! A fantastic day for all involved, but if you want to find out more just read our previous post!

Anna & Dan – Pre-Wedding Film – Edinburgh Zoo

This pre-wedding film (exclusive to our Strawberry Weddings Cinematic Package) took us to the Edinburgh Zoo – James is seen here behind our couple capturing some fantastic moments checking out the pandas! Not pictured: the concentration and passion on James’ face, just trust us on that one!

Rebecca & Scott – Perth

Finally, this shot taken by our videographer was just the culmination of all the right elements, a fantastic couple and perfect lighting complimented by the sun peering through the trees unexpectedly at the last minute.  Wonderful!

Here at Strawberry Wedding Films, we are honoured to be a part of your special day. From our first meeting to the moment you receive your hard copy of your wedding films we are here for you every step of the way.  From everyone here on the team, thank you to all our fantastic couples we’ve had the pleasure of meeting in 2017, and in 2018 we look forward to continuing to create and produce films that inspire, tug at your heartstrings and remind you of the happiness you’ve felt on one of the best days of your life.

Filming our Strawberry Cinematic Package

Sept 2, 2017

Kelburn Castle, Largs

The Wedding of Anna & Dan

It’s been a while since our last blog post and that’s due to one simple reason – it’s been WEDDING SEASON! 2017 has been our biggest and best year yet at Strawberry Wedding Films, as our teams have travelled all across Scotland filming your big day, from down at the borders all the way up to Dingwall and everywhere in between. Which is why it was great to get nearly the whole team together for our big Strawberry Cinematic shoot at Kelburn Castle.

You don’t often see colourful castles like this in Scotland!

Or any colour at all in the sky – double win today!

Set along the gorgeous west coast of Scotland, this fantastic venue allowed our team of no less than SEVEN of us free roam of the colourful castle during bride and groom prep.  Our couple for the day, Anna and Dan, were the perfect example of an amazing couple to work with, and we arrived early armed with all our gear, set out to document what was going to be an incredible day. Here’s a look at our setup for the outdoor ceremony: from right to left WAY in the background we have our two crane operators, our same-day editor, our 2nd videographer, then next to the bride we have the camera of our primary videographer (where’d he go?!) and of course not pictured are our drone crew, probably piloting the thing from beneath a tree so as not to get in the shot!

If you look closely you can see our same-day editor in the back trying to look casual and cool.

Get back to the edit!

As you probably know, for our Strawberry Cinematic package, we also do a same-day edit, which means we have one of our editors on-site taking what’s being filmed and arranging it all into a lovely little film of the day that we show to all your guests sometime during the evening up on a big screen.  Here’s our editor hard at work, looking very focused while ignoring that tasty banana next to him:

The most important part of the day after the nuptials?  Proper file management!

As mentioned we had no less than SEVEN crew members for our cinematic package out during this day – and you may be wondering – what do they all do?  Why so many?  Are they in the way? Well rest assured, all of our crew abide by our strict ‘stay out of the way’ policy! So fear not, in spite of the numbers we were all there to do a job and do it well, so with two main cameras, a full size crane and a drone, we had all the angles covered.

Anna and Dan being followed by our drone. Robots haven’t taken over our jobs yet, but this drone is leading the charge! (Just kidding, this drone likes to goof around)

When you work with a great team you get great results, it’s just that simple, so right at 9pm that evening we showed our same-day film, to tears and applause, which is exactly why we do what we do. Often here at Strawberry Wedding Films we don’t get to see your reaction when you see your final films for the first time, but are so grateful and fortunate to be able to see not just your reaction in person, but the smiles of all of your guests as well, and after a 12-hour day putting it all together, it’s one of the most satisfying feelings for all of us.  Speaking of us, here we are! (minus our done operators that don’t seem to be in any shots!)

Please excuse the guy ‘dabbing’ – he’s new.

Our Strawberry Cinematic package is something we truly enjoy because it brings all of our best people together to make something truly unique and amazing that your guests (and you!) have never seen before. Here’s the film we created on the day for Anna & Dan, check it out!

Wedding Report – Lisa & Richard

April 16, 2016

The Wedding of Lisa & Richard

The Cruin – Loch Lomond

It was a crisp and windy day on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, the choppy waters a stark contrast to the peaceful surroundings of mountains and thick white clouds. It wasn’t difficult to see why many a bride and groom choose to join in the bonds of matrimony in a place like this – one of many fantastic locales throughout Scotland – and we were lucky enough to be invited by Lisa & Richard to film the occasion.

’O ye’ll tak’ the high road, and I’ll tak’ the low road’

Upon our arrival to the venue, The Cruin, we stopped for a moment down by the water side to take in the fresh, crisp morning air. After deciding it was a bit too nippy for that, we quickly surveyed the scene and headed inside the venue to enjoy a quick spot of tea, at which point we were ready to lay out our gear and get the day started. Here’s just a glimpse of some of our kit from this particular day.

Three cameras (video), full audio kit, various lenses, tripods, sliders and countless memory cards. Not pictured: us smiling widely!

As a venue specifically designed to cater to weddings and other special events, The Cruin was well equipped to handle the approximately 80 attendees for both ceremony and reception in multiple spaces located in the one building, which for is very convenient for both guests and ourselves with all that gear! After setting up everything we needed for the ceremony, it was show time as the very lovely bride made her debut.

You can see James here (in the grey shirt) out of the way of the action yet capturing every moment!

One of the pleasures of shooting in such a beautiful setting is the immeasurable value it adds to the look of the short films we create. Lisa and Richard chose a venue that allowed for the scenery to work perfectly as the backdrop for their ceremony; a natural matte painting of sorts that always delivers dramatic results!  Take a look at what we mean:

Lisa & Richard balancing very carefully on the pier!

Something you may not know about videographers, photographers and other vendors that attend your wedding – we’re often offered the same food as the rest of the guests, and we’ve had the pleasure of enjoying some of the best cuisine Scotland has to offer – and let me tell you that The Cruin was no exception. We enjoyed a delicious three-course meal of a Salmon starter, followed by Haggis-stuffed chicken and of course the requisite cheesecake selection that delighted the palate and refueled us for the night ahead. Check it out, here’s a picture of just the starter!

It’s like one of those Instagram pictures of food! Except it’s for this blog, so it’s not TOO hipster.

Full from a delicious meal, we made our way to the dance floor to capture all of the important moments – from cake-cutting to the first dance to even the father-of-the-bride breaking out a guitar and rocking the night away with his band, much to the delight of the party-loving wedding guests.

Slash from Guns n’ Roses, Brian May from Queen, & Lisa’s Dad: all cut from the same cloth.

At Strawberry, we attend many weddings throughout the year, but what you may not realize is that each one truly is different to both our couples and with how we approach the project creatively. We pride ourselves in documenting every special moment and presenting them to you a final video that we are proud of creating, one that we hope will allow you re-experience your special day for many more days to come with the same joy that you felt when you were standing together at the altar about to say ‘I do’.

Congrats to Lisa & Richard!

The Strawberry Cinematic Package

Here at Strawberry Weddings, we pride ourselves on acquiring the most current technology, techniques and talent – and as we kick off a brand new year we’ve decided to take that next big step and are very proud to introduce the all-new Strawberry Cinematic Package!  What is this premium package, you ask?

Our new cinematic package really is unique and we feel this level of commitment and quality to filmmaking would be hard to find anywhere else.  We’ve worked on developing this package for months, jotting down notes over many a delicious meal at the various weddings we’ve been to at venues all over Scotland. Now that we have all the equipment we need to make the cinematic package a reality, we can’t wait to get started!

Your Story, Your day

As a group of filmmakers there to document your wedding day, we often only spend that one day with you in order to capture all the moments and memories you’ll cherish for years to come. But what if we could expand on that moment in time?  What if we could go back a little earlier and tell your story? With the Strawberry Cinematic Package, we meet with you a few weeks before your wedding for a couple of hours to document your story, find out how you met, what it is you love about your significant other, and maybe even uncover some fun facts that we can then use in the production of your wedding day!  This opportunity gives us a chance to tell your story and create a lovely little film about the two of you in addition to the films we create about your big day.

 4K Production Pipeline

For the first time ever, Strawberry Weddings will film, edit and master your wedding in true 4K quality. What is 4K, you ask?  Fair question – simply put it’s FOUR TIMES the resolution of standard 1080p you have displayed on your TV at home. But wait, you say, I don’t have a 4K television! What good will that do me?! Don’t worry, for now, we will deliver you your films in both 4K and 1080p formats as digital files on USB (or Blu-ray upon request!) so your memories are future proof!  In our hands-on testing and experience, a 1080p film created from a 4K source looks absolutely stunning, but when the day comes that 4K becomes more ubiquitous in the consumer marketplace, you’ll be ready with that 4K file of your wedding!

Anamorphic Cameras

What are anamorphic lenses?  I’m not going to get into all the technical specs of the differences between anamorphic and standard spherical lenses – we use high-quality spherical lenses in all of our weddings – but what I can tell you is that the anamorphic lens has that more ‘cinematic’ feel to the way it captures moving images.  Basically, you see MORE of the horizontal aspect of the picture, capturing more of everything from the gorgeous Scottish landscapes to the LONG line of people waiting to congratulate you on your nuptials.

Same-Day Edit

Exclusive to our Strawberry Cinematic Package, our same-day-edit film is a fantastically unique way to wow your family and friends. So what exactly is it? Basically it’s a cinematic mini-documentary that tells the story of your wedding day, filmed and edited and then screened ON the wedding day, typically after dinner and before your first dance. It is a 3-5 minute fully-produced film that features highlights from all the intimate moments of your event. So how do we accomplish feat of cinematic delight? No, we haven’t invented a time machine (yet), it’s simply a matter of our editor being on-site at your wedding and taking a few hours to expertly put together a film that tells the story of your day from your perspective. This includes your pre-wedding story, your pre-ceremony prep and even the highlights of your ceremony itself. With a fully mobile, fully kitted-out edit suite, our talented team work in unison to produce a high quality film to screen for your guests – this is something you truly have to see to believe.

Steady-Cam and Drone

Let’s be honest here, these are some fun toys for us as filmmakers, but that’s not why we acquired them, we swear! Included in your Strawberry Cinematic Package, these tools are perfect for creating that authentically cinematic look of your big day! From the smooth, sweeping ground-level movements of our steady-cam to our drone soaring hundreds of feet in the air over some of Scotland’s most beautiful manor-homes, the quality of footage we are able to create from utilizing these toys are astonishing. Now imagine that footage in 4K – just incredible. We’ve very excited to offer these as part of our cinematic package!

Your very own director

For the first time at Strawberry Weddings, and exclusive to our cinematic package, you’ll be assigned a director to oversee your film from start to finish. They’ll be there before, during and after your big day to make sure your film is shot the way we’ve planned it. They’ll send you some fun (and some serious!) questions for you to answer about your lives so that we can discover and document your unique story. We’ll use this as a starting point that will then help shape the direction and feel for your film.

Welcome to the very first post of our Strawberry Blog!

Our sweet new office space overlooking the Firth of Fourth in Fife.  Fantastic!

When we decided to journey into the blogosphere here at Strawberry, we considered a number of different approaches to how we wanted this whole blog-writing thing to play out. Do we offer you, our valued clients (or potential client!) posts about the Top Ten Gowns for 2017?  Perhaps we should author an illuminating exploration of the delicate balance between red or green flowers at the head table for your Christmas nuptials?  Both important choices of course, but we realized you can find insight on that elsewhere on this world-wide-web of ours. (Spoiler alert: the answer is a mixture of both colours!)

We also had no intention of sourcing the writing out to a blog-writing farm that churns out articles en-masse, presenting you with a piece of prose often plagiarized and definitely not indicative of what we’re all about. In fact, to that point, this and every blog post on here will be written by a member of our Strawberry team, grammatical errors and spelling mistakes a strong possibility. (Come on, we’re filmmakers, not Hemmingway!)

So then as we were sitting down at our proverbial typewriter we simply asked ourselves – why are you here? What do you want out of this blog?

And the answer was clear – you’re here because you want to know more about us! Who are we? Who are these people that film your wedding and make some cool short films about one of the biggest days of your life? As our favorite discount airline always says: ‘we know that you have options’ when it comes to hiring a wedding videographer, so what makes Strawberry Wedding Films the best choice for your day?

If there was one simple answer, it would come down to one thing. We’re HILARIOUS.  Seriously, we have a great sense of humour, and that’s not us saying that, or the opinion of well-meaning family members, but we’ve been told by some very honest and impartial people that we trust fully that we can crack a great joke. Mostly clean jokes as well!

Sure, we invest in the best cameras and audio equipment, and have a tight-knit core team of videographers, editors, & graphic designers from around the world. But anybody can just go out and buy good gear; here at Strawberry it’s more than that, because we don’t consider this just a job, it’s our lives. We enjoy making movies, we take pleasure in telling stories and we appreciate your enjoyment of our work. We feel like we’re good at what we do not because of years of experience, but because we have fun doing it. All of us here share the same philosophy, that you have to love what you do, and have a good laugh while you’re out there doing it.

So, put simply, this blog is about us and the weddings we shoot. It’s about the couples we meet, the places we get to visit, and the stories we are able to tell. There will be behind-the-scenes pics of gorgeous venues, tasty food, our hilarious team, and probably lots of rolling hills dotted with sheep. (Scotland really is a beautiful place to film!) So we hope you enjoy following us on our journey at the start of yours – because we may be with you on just your wedding day, but we take pride in crafting a story of that day that you will always cherish.
